Request For Reasonable Accommodation

OHA is subject to Federal civil rights laws and regulations, such as Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (“Section 504”), Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (“ADA”), and the Fair Housing Act of 1968 (“Fair Housing Act”). From time to time, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”) conducts reviews of housing authorities across the country to ensure they operate according to these laws and regulations. Strict compliance with these laws and regulations is required for housing authorities to continue receiving Federal financial assistance from HUD. HUD completed a compliance review of OHA in January 2013, where it determined that OHA needed to (1) improve the physical accessibility of some of its common areas and individual housing units and (2) update some of its policies and procedures. As a result, HUD and OHA entered into a Voluntary Compliance Agreement (“VCA”) in March 2015, where OHA voluntarily agreed to address these issues and ensure OHA operates in compliance with the applicable laws and regulations. The VCA has been amended twice since it was initially signed – for the first time on November 13, 2017, and for the second time on August 4, 2023 (this is the most current version of the agreement). A copy of the current VCA is posted on OHA’s website in case you would like to read the agreement in its entirety. OHA continues to work with HUD to make its facilities more accessible to people with disabilities and keep its policies and procedures up to date with the latest laws and regulations. This reasonable accommodation website was built as part of the VCA to provide OHA’s residents with a quick and easy way to submit and track the progress of reasonable accommodation requests.
